The College often receives inquiries from patients looking to access their medical records. The College does not store patient medical records. Patient medical records are the property of the physician.
If a physician decides to close their practice, they will notify the patient 90 days in advance. Patients can request a copy of their records, or for them to be transferred to a new health care provider. Patients may be required to pay a fee to access, copy or transfer their records.
Physicians who are closing their practice may also choose to transfer patient medical records to a safe storage facility like DOCUdavit. In this case, the notice to patients will also include the medical record storage location.
