Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I don’t have a family doctor, how do I get one?

If you do not have a family doctor, you can contact NB Health Link to be added to the provincial waitlist. They will match you with a doctor, or nurse practitioner, when one becomes available.

While you are waiting for a permanent healthcare provider, patients registered with NB Health Link can still receive care through a network of family doctors and nurse practitioners across the province.

You can register with NB Health Link by visiting their self-referral page here.

  2. Where do I get my immunization records?

The healthcare provider who gave you your vaccines is responsible for keeping your immunization records.

You can also sign up for MyHealthNB to view your full immunization record online. Click here to access the MyHealthNB website.

  3. My physician is no longer practicing; how do I obtain my patient records?

The College does not store patient records.

When physicians close or leave their practice, they must safely store their patients’ records or arrange for a secure third‑party to store them. They are also required to inform their patients before they close or leave their practice. If you need a copy of your records, we encourage you to first try contacting your former physician.

Physicians must also notify the College when they close or leave their practice and tell us where the records are stored. If you cannot reach your physician, we may be able to help you locate your records.
