Due to geography and historical ties, there are longstanding provisions for physicians practising in border jurisdictions to obtain licensure for no more than occasional practice in New Brunswick.  This includes physicians in directly neighboring provinces, as well as the State of Maine.  The essential requirement for a Border Area Licence is a current licence to practise medicine or osteopathy in that province or state, as well as residency there.

Applications may be requested from the College, by phone (506) 849-5050, fax (506) 849-5069 or by e-mail.

The initial application fee is $150. The annual licensing fee for the calendar year is $100.  In addition, all physicians licensed with the College are required to obtain membership with the New Brunswick Medical Society.
